In the Russian regions bordering Ukraine, martial law should be introduced with the maximum level of response instead of the average, said the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. In his opinion, such measures will be fully justified in connection with today’s attack on the Bryansk region, in which the Russian authorities blamed “Ukrainian saboteurs.”
“I think that martial law should have been introduced in some regions with a maximum level of response instead of the currently established average. Yes, it may be inconvenient for local residents, but they will be safe,” Kadyrov said.
Now martial law is valid only in the occupied territories of Ukraine: in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, as well as Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
Kadyrov also demanded “the toughest possible deal with all the participants in the sortie to the Bryansk region.” “Shoot to kill. To deal not only with them, but also to bring to justice their families, who may live in Russia. No flirting with terrorists,” Kadyrov said.
According to telegram channels and state agencies, a group of 50 people broke through the border, entered the villages of Sushany and Lyubechany, took several local residents hostage, blew up an electrical substation and a gas station, fired at a car with children, which killed two people and was injured 10-year-old boy, and then vanished into thin air. Nobody was detained.
The FSB reported that units of the special services and the Ministry of Defense “carry out measures to destroy violators of the state border.” However, in the end, the security forces reported only on the discovery of “a large number of explosive devices of various types” and reported that mine clearance was underway. At the same time, local residents said that they did not see any special services and could not get through to anyone.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack a “terrorist attack” and canceled a trip to the Stavropol Territory. On March 3, he will hold a meeting of the Security Council. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, called reports of saboteurs in the Bryansk region a provocation. “Russia wants to frighten its own people in order to somehow justify an attack on another country and growing poverty in a year of war,” he said .
Later, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” took responsibility for what happened. The movement, which, according to the founders, is fighting as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, published a video with men in white and green military uniforms in front of a building with a sign “Lyubechansky feldsher-obstetric station.” One of them is the RDK commander, nationalist Denis Nikitin (Kapustin), who fled Russia in 2017 and has lived in Ukraine ever since.
Local residents told the VChK-OGPU telegram channel that people in military uniforms with white and yellow armbands drove everyone into the houses, “shot into the air, blew up something and left,” but they did not hear about hostage-taking. The information about the hostages was not confirmed by the Sushan authorities themselves. The girl Zlata from the allegedly shelled car reported that she had seen soldiers in white and green uniforms. According to her, they did not do anything, but told the children: “Run and hide.”
It is known that white armbands are used by the Russian army, and yellow armbands are used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are other inconsistencies in the situation. So, neither during the alleged attack, nor a few hours later, not a single video appeared either from eyewitnesses or from the media. In addition, it is not clear how fifty people with weapons made their way through the border, which is guarded by the military and other law enforcement agencies, and then calmly walked from the village of Lyubechany to the village of Sushany, without encountering any opposition.
